What Happens in a New Phone Setup Visit

Getting a new phone should be exciting, but moving everything across can be stressful. A setup visit is one of the most common jobs I do in Wellington, so here’s what it involves and how to get ready.

What I move across

  • Contacts, photos and videos
  • Messages, including WhatsApp chats where possible
  • Email accounts and calendars
  • Apps you use every day, signed in and working
  • Banking apps, which usually need you there to verify
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices like hearing aids or your car, and your smartwatch

What I check and set up

  • A working backup, so you don’t lose anything next time
  • Two-step verification moved to the new phone, so you don’t get locked out
  • Text size and display settings that suit you
  • Find My or Find My Device switched on

What to have ready

  • Your old phone, charged, and its passcode
  • Your new phone, charged
  • Your Apple ID or Google account password
  • Passwords for your email and banking, or access to the codes they send
  • Your Wi-Fi password

Missing passwords are the most common reason setups take longer. If you’re not sure of yours, let me know when you book and we’ll plan around it.

What happens to the old phone?

Once everything’s safely on the new phone, I can wipe the old one properly so it’s ready to sell, trade in, pass on or recycle, with none of your information left on it.

How long does it take?

Most phone setups take about an hour, sometimes a bit more for older phones or lots of accounts. On-site tech support is $120 per hour with a 1-hour minimum and no call-out fee. See tech support for details, or text me on 020 453 2233 to book.
